NECESSITIES FOR NEIGHBORS
A PROGRAM OF SVDP NEXT GEN AT SVDP RHODE ISLAND
Necessities for Neighbors is a program started by Next Gen to provide basic necessities for neighbors in need. Over the last few years, they have provided thousands of toiletry bags to our SVDP Conferences to distribute at their food pantries, soup kitchens, and on home visits. In addition to serving our SVDP Conferences, over the years they have also paired up with Foster Forward, Breadlines, SVDP Prison Ministry, and SVDP-USA Disaster Services.
Why Toiletries?
It’s simple. People shouldn’t have to decide between their next meal or toothpaste and toilet paper. Did you know 1 in 3 low-income Rhode Island Families find it difficult to afford basic necessities? Did you know you can’t use EBT cards to purchase tampons and pads, or laundry detergent? These are some basic necessities we take for granted every day.
Where do we get our supplies?
Thanks to generous donors, location based toiletry drives, and some grants.
Where do they go?
The teens host “dropping days” where they will bring them directly out into the streets and the commumity, in addition to providing the bags to our SVDP Conferences who directly serve families in need everyday. Over the years Next Gen has paired up with Foster Forward, Breadlines, SVDP Prison Ministry, and SVDP-USA Disaster Services.
