About Us

Inspired by Gospel values, SVDP Rhode Island, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule.

Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. SVDP Rhode Island collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ. While not a formal arm of the Church, SVDP Rhode Island is faithful to magisterial teaching and in full communion with our bishop, Thomas Tobin.

Our administrative offices are located at 31 Poplar Drive, Cranston, RI, in the former convent at St Mark’s Church. You may reach us at 401-490-0822, or by emailing our executive director, Ms. Renee Brissette, at rbrissette – at – svdpri.org.

Local Conferences

SVDP Rhode Island comprises a statewide Council, five districts, and 34 parish-based conferences. Use the tabs below to find local services, including conferences, food pantries, meal sites, and holiday aid.  Note: Some conferences of SVDP Rhode Island operate clothing closets. Call ahead to find out if the conference closest to you offers clothing. Choice is often limited at these closets, and proper sizes may not be available. For acute clothing needs, contact our administrative office at 401-490-0822 so we can talk about providing a voucher for the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Plainville, MA.

Conferences of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are composed of Vincentian volunteers who serve those in need in their local communities.  At the heart of what we do is the “home visit,” so don’t be surprised if Vincentians ask to meet in your home (they will always arrive in pairs). Most of our conferences offer the range of basic needs assistance from rent and security deposits to assistance with medical and utility bills. Those marked with  have food pantries. Those marked with ▲ provide holiday assistance. Those marked with  sponsor meal sites.
