The Friends of the Poor Walk began as a national program with the purpose of providing local Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Conferences and Councils the additional funds to help support their special works projects. Last year, over 22,000 walkers raised $2.1 million nationwide. Here in the Dicoese of Providence, we had 300 walkers and raised over $25,000!
This year’s Friends of the Poor Walk will be held on Saturday, September 20, at Governor Notte Park in North Providence, RI. Check-in begins at 9:00 am. We’ll be walking a one-mile course through the picturesque park, past the Wenscott Reservoir, a beautiful waterfall and lovely picnic groves. It will be a great day of exercise, fellowship and helping others.
